What can I do with customer service experience?

How can I publicize a horrible customer service experience?

  • I have been trying to get my horn fixed on my Kia Soul Sport, still well within warranty, but am having very little luck. The dealership has kept my vehicle all day for a many different days, insisting that they cannot recreate the problem and would not be able to fix it. Even so, my horn has failed to work countless times, 4 or 5 of which were while I was narrowly escaped a collision. The horn does work some times, but not 100% of the time. Even when it goes out, sometimes, within a minute or 2, or even a few seconds, it will work. Every time I talk with the Service Techs at the dealership or the Consumer Affairs people on the phone, I get so angry that I literally begin shaking, feeling my pulse and blood pressure rise to dangerous levels, even though I am usually a very calm and healthy young person. I understand the policy, trying to cut down on unnecessary costs, but I can't believe that no one is allowed to override it, given the fact it is a major safety issue. I don't know who else to tell about this horrible service. I feel like camping out at a dealership and letting everyone who tries to buy a car this story, warning them, encouraging them to choose another car. Would a newspaper or TV news station be interested in a story like this?

  • Answer:

No the BBB and the head of Kia North America would watch what you say today, because it could be the leather you eat tomorrow but check the horn relay, even though they can't recreate the problem doesn't mean this part isn't defective... I had a similar problem on a Honda that had been to 3 different dealers... I took me several hours to duplicate and discover the problem... But I do not know the wiring of this vehicle so I only speak from my import experience

ive been driving for 10 years and never had to use horn once, sounds like you're an angry, fast driver. contact citizens advice and trading standards. good luck (take a breath, count to ten.........)

No, I doubt anyone would be interested in the story. It is difficult to fix something that is working when you bring it in, but it would have to be either the switch or the relay I would think. The horn is NOT a safety issue. I can't tell you if mine works or not because I have never used it. If you find you are using it often, check your driving.

Use Social Networking sites or create your own website, but bear in mind that slander and mis-representation can cause all sorts of legal issues.

The Yahoo! Police.

Have you reported them to the Better Business Bureau? They helped me when I got cheated out of some money and the service is free.

I wouldn't bother publicizing it. All that will do is cost YOU money and/or time. I wouldn't waste either for a problem with a horn. Unless you can find a large group of people dissatisfied with the service at that dealership, you'll just sound like 1 disgruntled person if you publicize your problems and few people will take you seriously. What I'd suggest is either taking the service manager with you on a test-ride to demonstrate what's happening if you haven't already. If the horn has failed a number of times you might have better luck getting it to fail than them. If that doesn't work, just take it to a different Kia dealership (even if it means a longer drive) and stop wasting your time with the dealership that's not meeting your service needs. You can take it to any Kia dealership to get warranty work done.

First, a horn is almost never needed. If you have gotten yourself into 4 or 5 situations a horn was needed to avoid almost having a collision, then the horn is not your most serious problem. Second, it is not a better of avoiding unnecessary costs. If the problem only happens when you are the only person in the car, and it never happens when they are in the car, then they really cannot fix it, at any price, because they cannot tell what is causing the problem until it happens while the car is with them. Third, many states have "lemon laws" that say that if a serious problem with the car is not fixed after you give the dealer three or more tries, then you can notify them in writing that they must fix it on their next attempt or let you return the car and get back your money. The details and the filing procedure vary from state to state, so you will need to research the law in your state. However, lemon laws do not apply to problems that you cause by misusing the car. If you have tried to use the horn countless times while the car was still under warranty, then you may simply have worn out the horn by trying to use it more times than it should be used during the life of the car.

You want to ruin a car companies business and reputation over a faulty horn that they bought from some sub contracter. PRICELESS ! ! I am actually more concerned about the fact that you almost got into 4-5 accidents. Ever heard of defensive driving? I am also terribly concerned with your readiness and inclination to get mad at the slightest provocation; maybe you would be better to sell this car and walk or take public transportation.
