Why don't the police give out more tickets to people who don't use turn signals?

  • I am fed up of lazy drivers who seem to think other drivers have esp and know what they are going to do. I DON'T know when you are going to change lanes or turn a corner unless you use your signals PLEASE everyone who is guilty of not using signals. Start using them. the life you save could be your own. Southern Alabama Drivers are especially bad at not using signals

    It's no worse down in 'bama than it is up here. Lived there for a while (Mobile). Now, I'm not a mind reader either, but I do read signals other than the winky lights that aren't turned on (or off) at the proper times. I don't need them at all to tell where the other vehicle is headed. I learned a long time ago how to read head motions, wheel direction and numerous other clues. They have kept me alive - no joke.

I've never been to Southern Alabama but it's bad in New York. Come on fellow drivers, I can't read your mind. I'm not a mind reader, I don't know anybody who is one.

At its root, enforcement is a political issue. A police force that displeases the public will feel pressure from the mayor and city council through the police chief, who answers to them. Enforcing use of turn signals is just not popular. I agree with you about the hazards of sloppy driving, including not using turn signals. Anybody who has been in an accident in which lane change or turning was involved, and who did not use turn signals, probably wished they had used the signals... but not many drivers are properly afraid of lawyers. Drivers think of police as being the threat, and they could not be more wrong.

Its the same way in the west coast. Drivers tend to forget what they learned in drivers ed & training. They forget everything when they sit in the drivers seat & close the door. Its really not that difficult to use the turn signals.

People do it in Boise, Idaho too. In front of cops too. They never get pulled over! You will get shot at doing that where I come from.

Too minor a crime. The paper work and court costs well out weigh the $50 ticket. Sorry that's the way our world has become. If an officer has to go to court, he gets paid overtime .

Also, they change lanes right before they turn rather than getting into the correct lane ahead of time.
