Why doesn't anyone use turn signals when making turn?

  • Over 90% of the time i NEVER see anyone using turn signals and this sometimes leads to confusion. For example i am trying to make a left at the light, and from the other end there is a person who is wanting to make a right. I presume he will go straight because he is not using his signals. So as i make the left turn he too makes a right turn, i get shocked that his car is coming on my car because i thought he would be going straight. He then angrily blows the horn at me. Whose fault is it -- mine or his? He has amazing super confidence as he blows the horn. Even while changing lanes, nobody uses signals. Are people so extremely lazy now, that they find it too much effort to push down the turn signal stick?

    This varies with the community. In some communities no one gives a damn if they live or die. In other communities lots of people set a good example for each other. My advice. 1. When driving ... assume other drivers are unreliable, about their signalling, you drive defensively 2. You obey the rules, set a good example 3. If it is safe to do so, jot down info on vehicles you notice that are not obeying the rules ... license plate, description of vehicle, where it was, date time, so that you can report them. If it is a commercial vehicle, report it to the company whose logo was on the side of the vehicle ... they take very seriously when a member of the public reports that their brand name was misbehaving on the public highways If it is a private vehicle,visit police station to make a report on what you saw, that you thought was dangerous. They might not do anything about it, but if you talk friends and relatives into also doing this, then people who get reported a lot may some day get a nasty letter from the DMV. In the example you give, let the guy get ahead of you, so that you can jot down the license plate #..

I figure their cars aren't equipped with turn signals. Next car I buy, I'll get the no turn signal model too..... This flipping the turn signal on is causing some serious wear and tear on my finger. One of my vehicles doesn't cancel the signal on it's own, you can imagine my anguish when I have to turn the signal back off with my weary finger....they're lazy self centered morons, you allready knew that though

They don't? What kind of area do you live in? I'm not a driver yet, but I almost ALWAYS see people using their turn signals here. Besides, if they don't. My sister cusses them out under breath. =D

it's kind of like the tailgaters here in Illinois near St louis. I slam on my brakes because they are 10 feet from my rear bumper , causing them to lock theirs up, and they still ride my butt. People are just inconsiderate and think they own the road and don't have to obey traffic laws. they think the laws are suggestions.

Yeah, the other person should use their turn signals. My number one pet peeve is the person ahead of me that brakes hard and then in the last five seconds signals their intention to turn. All the drivers behind could have used that information 30-45 seconds before, especially on a 55 mph undivided highway, thank you. I would say that you are both somewhat at fault--I mainly fault the imbecile that doesn't signal, but if you're having difficultly with 90% of your resident drivers then you need to adjust to the dumber drivers in your area. I had a problem like that when I moved from the greater Boston area to Omaha. My driving style clashed with the pokey, less-sophisticated and less aware style of the Nebraska drivers. I had to adjust and carefully watch the drivers for a while. After years I have adjusted. People won't learn to develop a more sophisticated driving style (including basic signaling) without being forced to. You won't be able to change their driving alone. It's up to you to make up for their lack of driving skill.

I like how the cops ignore that now, years ago, that would get you a ticket for sure, now all the cops are 23 year old knuckle heads that think it's o.k. to drive like that, I notice that cops turn there heads the other way now, they don't even want to get out of the car.

simple they should use them but since you can only control what you alone do, just be prepared. I also got a kick out of the guy who slams on his brakes if he feels someone is following to close, think about that driving action for a bit and see who the real idiot is.
