When ppl are rude to me in front of my child?

Can my child legally sit in the front seat of a car on the motorway in the uk?

  • can my child travel in the front seat of a car on the motorway in the uk? my child is 4 years old and even though we use the front seat arount town, i was just wondering if it is ok to use the front seat on the motorway? any help would be appreciated, kind regards

  • Answer:

Whatever the law says, I know that if I had a collision at 70mph I would much rather have all of my little ones in the back seats. I couldn't care less if the front crumpled and did me damage, but at least they would be further back and therefore in less of a position to bear the full brunt of any impact. Plus, someone has to survive to spend all of that life insurance i'm currently paying, lol!

OK, this isn't what I think, this is what the law says: Children over 3 years old and up to EITHER 1.35 metres in height OR the age of 12: In the front seat, the child MUST use the correct child restraint. It is illegal for a child who is both under 135cm tall and under 12 to use solely an adult seat-belt This law applies on ALL roads in the U.K.

The important thing is that the seat belt fits the child, a booster seat may be needed. There is no age restriction. A child in a baby seat must be rear facing and the air bag switched off. The highway code costs £2.50 from any stationers and post office.

Where you drive is irrelevant. The rules apply to any road.

I think you will get all different answers about this. To my understanding only a child over 12 can sit in the front on any road. But as I said, others will say different..

Provided your child is in the correct child seat for their age & height, UK law does not distinguish between the front and rear seats, and nor are seatbelt/child seat laws any different for motorways or other roads. If your child is not using the appropriate child seat, you (not the child) are breaking the law on any road. For babies, a rear-facing child seat should not be used in the front seat of a car with a front passenger airbag unless the airbag has been deactivated, but this is not an issue for larger children in front-facing seats.

probably no. there are wardens on the motorway to definitely N.O. also the motorways can be busy and other cars might see your youngster in the from row and not like it........

To sit in the front seat of any moving vehicle a child MUST be aged 13 years and over. It is ILLEGAL under that age.
