We have a Sunshine Kids (Diono now) in our Honda CRV, rear facing in the middle with a seat belt install. We also have used the Evenflo Tribute 5 in the car rear facing. As for fire stations, in our area they are not car seat techs. Our local hospital has car seat techs, and so does our local health department. You have to call around and find a car seat tech.

You can fit almost any rear facing car seat in the back of your 4 door 96 Accord. The baby can turn forward at 2 per the AAP http://aapnews.aappublications.org/content/30/4/12.2.full , but the NHTSA recommends rear facing through age 3 http://www.nhtsa.gov/ChildSafety/step2 But if the child still fits rear facing, you don't have to turn them forward when they turn 4. Here's a visual explanation http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sssIsceKd6U If you're still not convinced, it's explained in more detail here http://carseatblog.com/5168/why-rear-facing-is-better-your-rf-link-guide/ And the sad story of an 18 month old 33 pound boy, big and tall for his age, who broke his neck in an accident because he was forward facing http://www.joelsjourney.org/ Pictures of children as old as 4 years, 9 months rear facing http://www.photoshop.com/users/CarSeatsAreCool/albums/2a9fce7bbf5040bab2f8925bc7b7a2e4 Here's my list of recommended car seats with rear facing weight limit in parenthesis: Sunshine Kids Radian (now Diono) (65SL (now R100) - 40 lbs., 80SL (now R120) or XTSL (now RXT) - 45 lbs.) Britax Marathon 70/Boulevard 70/Advocate 70 CS (40 lbs.) Safety 1st Complete Air (40 lbs.) Learning Curve True Fit models (35 lbs. but taller than most) Graco MyRide 65 (40 lbs) Evenflo Triumph 65 (40 lbs.) Evenflo Momentum 65 (40 lbs.) Cosco Scenera (35 or 40 lbs) Be sure to read the car seat manual and the vehicle manual. After you read the manual and try to install it again, post on http://www.car-seat.org asking for help with how to install it. I wouldn't go to the fire department unless they have a certified Child Passenger Safety Technician (CPST). Is your daughter rearfacing? I am going to assume that she is rear facing. Any convertible car seat can be as upright as 30 degrees. The 45 degree rule only applies to infant seats because infants do not have head control. Sometimes at Toys R Us, they allow you test the display model to make sure that it is compatible with your vehicle. Remember that you want a convertible car seat with at least a top slot of 17 inches, so that when she is done using it rearfacing, she can use it forward facing in a harness for a while. A convertible seat that I would recommend would be the Diono Radian RXT or R120. It is a narrow seat (so narrow that it would help parents fit 3 carseats in a row). It is narrow, but it has a big angle front to back. There is a new angle adjuster for these seats that costs about an extra $10. I would test it out at Toys R Us and buy it with the angle adjuster. Many parents fit the Radian car seats in between the seats in front.

Why don't see what is availalbe. Buy the one you think fits and if it does not return it for another one. Child seats are universal and should fit just about any car on the market. They are designed to work with current seat belt designs. It is possible you do not understand how to secure this seat. Read the instructions or ask for help from the store or the police. Best wishes.
