What does high offset mean?

What does a low offset on rims mean? Negative? Positive Offsets?

  • Just need to know before i buy rims for my car. I heard low offset rims like negative offset tend to stick out more on your car and positive offsets sit more in your car? Thanks for all the answers!

  • Answer:

This has to do with the wheels position in reference to the hub. A zero offset is in the middle. Referring to how far the wheel goes in or out from the fender. well. Older cars like 68 mustangs have a zero offset. Offset is also denoted by ET. Front wheel drive cars have a +45 offset. 45 is not a universal but it indicates here that it is a positive high offset. Rear wheel drive cars tend to have a low offset like -4 or such like. I found some great answers online through a google search. There are tire size calculators and things like that. I would suggest you look up tirerack.com and search for the offset info or even the discounttire.com site has good tire size calculator and info on what offset is.
