How do I remove Ignition switch in 75'-80' GM car?

    I had my ignition switch replaced recently and it was quite a job! If your car has a air bag in the steering wheel DO NOT attempt this repair yourself as the air bag could go off and take your head off! If your car doesn't have a air bag the repair will not be that hard for you to do yourself as long as you have the proper tools to do the job. I had a pro. do mine and it cost $350.00 Good luck!!!!!

the ignition switch is down the steering column and two screws hold it in.... the key switch requires removal of the steering wheel

take the horn screws from behind the steering wheel and then get a steering wheel puller to take off steering wheel. couple of screws hold the turn signal in place then there is a slot that you inscert a thin screw driver in or a screw that holds the ingition in. go to a scrap yard and practise there. they have lots to see and work on for free. just buy something and they will be happy

If this is about the key and tumbler, follow the first 8-9 steps. It may have a spring loaded tongue holding it in place instead of the screw shown but the rest of the steps are the same. Use your new one for a reference. If this is about the actual ignition switch, it mounts near the lower end of the column with two screws and has a wiring harness that must be removed. You can see it near the end of the column in the first picture.
