How does one know if there is a high level of carbon monoxide in the home or garage?
-
Intermittently, there is an odd odour and someone suggested it may be carbon monoxide. I have 2 cars, one of which is quite old and has no catalytic converter.

Carbon monoxide itself is odorless, but the exhaust that contains it is often smelly. Hardware and home stores carry carbon monoxide detectors, which are good investments if your home has a furnace for heat. If you get headaches when working in the garage CO may be responsible. I had CO poisoning (industrial accident) once and it was no fun at all.
