Is it worth it to buy the Sony extended warranty?

Where's the best place to buy a extended auto warranty?

  • I have another 5k miles before my factory warranty runs out on my car and i wanted to buy a extended auto warranty. I did'nt buy 1 from the dealer becasue i did'nt want my car payment to go up anymore. I pefer now to just pay for a extended warranty in full rather month to month. My question is where is the best place/company to buy a warranty from as far as price, customer service, roadside service, rental car assistant, dependability and reliability? I know on my last car i brought a warrany from ge auto warranty and they were excellent as far as repairing my car.

  • Answer:

The dealership. I dont understand why you didn't pay for it when you purchased the car.. The dealership offers its own coverage , but you could have had purchased the extended warranty separately even then. Anyway I would get it from the dealer. Other places sometimes will not put original factory parts on your car. I just wouldn't deal with anybody else.

I do not believe in Extended warranties. All of the benefits you just descrieved can be had with a good car insurance plan, or AAA card subscription. I am the proud owner of a japanesse import that now has 219,000 miles and still running. Only repair was to change the thermostat.

Buy one that is backed by the manufacturer. For example, if you own a Ford Fusion, buy a Ford Extended Service Plan. It is valid at every Ford, Lincoln and Mercury dealership in the country. Be careful though, dealers will often sell some kind of aftermarket warranty backed by unknown companies not the genuine warranty. Go to your car maker's official website and somewhere in the service or owners area will have information on a warranty backed by the manufacturer.

Generally the best are from the manufacturer. Most of the others come from Insurance companies and, for example, will say "covers brakes" but in the fine print rule out ALL brake parts except the hard lines; no joke, I've seen that. Also, weigh out the warranty cost versus probable repairs, some I priced were way over any combination of possible problems.
