What is maximum gear ratio?

What gear ratio should i i put in my GM 4x4 to match the larger tires?

  • I just built a 1987 GM pickup with a stock 350 and a 700r4 tranny. The truck sits on 35" tires and i need to swap out my front and rear gears to match the tires.Stock gear ratio was 3.08.What ratio do you recommend me switching too.I do very minimal towing(but would still like to have towing capabilities and "decent" gas mileage) and its a daily driver.Whats a good ratio to go with?I have seen that chart that people have about gear swaps but a chart doesnt mean anything to me,i want to hear personal experience if any.Thanks. Oh yeah,i know i'll never get great gas mileage with this vehicle but just humor me would ya?!?!

  • Answer:

with 35" tires i would use 3.90 or 4.11 gears lots of people will say they kill your mileage but with 3.90"s my 302 powered f150 gets 17-20 hwy mpg and i can climb anything.. in town i get about 12 mpg by the way i have 33"s on mine
