  • Answer:

He should take an auto technician course or two at your local community college. That will get him a job at a dealership with career potential.

He needs to go in and ask if there are any apprenticeship vacancies. Employers like to see when people are keen and you would be surprised how many may actually have vacancies. I trained up at a main dealership Peugeot which i don't really like to admit lol. But that is what he needs to work for a crap car company because they get more cars in the workshop so more experience for the apprentice. Better then working for a German or Japanese company where things only come in for servicing there fore he wont learn anything. Get the yellow pages out and ring round. I did a few exams somewhere and then they pass all my details on to all the garages. College might also be able to get him a placement in a workshop.

Depending on his age and location. I think he could get an apprenticeship NVQ in that sort of thing, search for it through yahoo.

Thats great for him to have that skill. My step brother is actually attending an automotive mechanical course at a college at the moment. He going to be doing 1 year in college and 2nd in a garage and then an apprentiship. Contact the colleges around the area and ask if they accomidate your partner next year or something. Or you could get him to ask around some small local garages for some training. Good luck for both of you, hope this helped.

When I was really interested in mechanics, I got the good fortune of apprenticing myself out to a car dealer's shop. The information that you can glean from working with artisans is invaluable. He must have the courage to walk in these shops and either volunteer to work with people or see if they will hire him as an apprentice. Go for it.

depending on his age, he should just enquire with garages around the area, some places do not advertise but if someone shows they are willing to learn then they may take him on. he could write, or go and ask, i know you are saying he doesn't have the confidence but most employers like being approached as again this shows the person is keen. Good luck

Apprenticeship is nice to learn, but he needs to get certified if he is every going to get a job as a full mechanic. For that he should really check out local community colleges for courses. He can check out auto-mechanics school, but they are much more expensive (any may or may NOT be better). Good Luck.

Rachel, ask him to go to Renault or Ford, they're pretty good taking apprentices and good job will be guaranteed for him, all the best.
