91 accord won't start?

Why won't my 91 Honda Accord start or stay on?

• I bought my car about a month ago thinking it was fine for the price. Only $600 and it ran great while I was test driving it, and a few days after I bought it. But then the problems started. First, it just flat out wouldn't start. I'd turn the key, and it would try to start but wouldn't crank. I noticed that when this happened, the check engine light would stay on while in accessory. That, and the fact that it seemed to be affected by temperature and the amount of time it had run that day led me to believe that the problem was the main relay. I'm broke and don't know a mechanic, so going to get a thorough diagnostic done right now is kind of out of the question at the moment. I was just dealing with this problem, letting it sit and trying to crank it for anywhere from 5 minutes to an hour every time I had to drive it. Eventually the check engine light would turn off and I could start it. Now there seems to be a totally different problem on top of that. When the car gets to a point that it will start, as soon as I push in the gas pedal, it dies, and won't start up again. This one has totally stumped me. Is there any explanation for this? And if anyone wants to tell me to take the car back, believe me, I tried. The dealership had some clause in the contract that protected them from the lemon laws, so that's out.

  It sounds like a dirty fuel filter to me. Honda isn't a good brand either though.
