How to put an aftermarket exhaust on a car?

Can a car blow up when a lighter put in the exhaust pipe? I overheard a conversation that it can blow up a car?

  • I overheard a conversation between 2 angry men. I don't know if that was just an anger talk or it really can cause a car to blow up but I did find it disturbing cos I own a car too. What if they got the wrong car. Please help. Thanks.

    No - it would just be blown out the exhaust. If they tried to glue it in place the coating of soot in the tail pipe would foil it anyway. Butane lighters have been the subject of other urban legends. Around 1980 there was a myth going around about welding sparks igniting butane lighters that were in front pockets - it even appeared in an official FAA safety publication (I worked in aviation at the time). As the first source says: busted. Individual defective lighters can explode but that is about the limit of it... unless you throw one in a fire, of course.

actually the exhaust gases that are expelled do not have any flammability properties because that already happened in the combustion chamber. So unless you do other things to make that possible and I will not go any further with that topic so yes and no to your question be good now

It may well be true petrol is extremely explosive and combustable, it is not the fuel that causes the exposion it is the fumes from the vapour, that is why you should never smoke while looking inside an engine or when filling up your car.

that would have to be on hell of a lighter let me tell you and no a lighter is not going to blow up a car just like that.

I suppose if it were in such bad shape raw gas is going through--but even then I think it would be contained. In general, that would be like lighting an ashtray.
