What is the difference between a 350 turbo tranny short tail an long tail?

• i have a 88 s-10 extended cab with a vortec 4.3 with 700r tranny in it now, its going bad an i was told to change to a 350 turbo, i found a short tail an i was asked if i wanted a long tail instead an i had no answer to give.. just need to know what to order... or wud a 700r be a better way to go, nothin else on the truck is stock an i dont really care if its custom or stock wen it comes to the tranny.. motor is built but its a bagged truck an is shown at shows but i just wanna have a tranny that works really who will tell if its a stock trans or not..

  The difference is the short tail shaft has a shorter tail shaft and shorter output shaft. Going with a turbo 350 you are going to lose alot of mechanical advantage because the 700r4 has a deeper first gear and you will be losing alot of gas mileage because a turbo 350 does not have overdrive. So with a th 350 you will feel like it has lost quite a bit of power and gas mileage.
