What does a gear ratio mean?
-
I want to get one of the new 2011 mustangs (in a couple years, when I'll be able to possibly afford a used one) and I'm wondering what they mean when you can upgrade to a 3.73 rear axle ratio or something like that? Could someone please explain?
-
Answer:
The axle ratio is simply the number if times that the drive shaft will rotate for one rotation of the wheels. You have to know how that matches to the Engine & Transmission choice to understand if any given number is useful for what you want, do you intend to race, or get better fuel economy ... or?
