Where Is The Cheapest Gas In Victoria Bc?

Another Crown Victoria Question?

  • 1998 Ford Crown Victoria LX 4.6L 281ci 137k I have noticed recently that when I let off the gas after accelerating or when slowing for an intersection, a faint rattling noise comes from somewhere around the engine as if something was loose. Not for sure of the source bc I am always driving and can't really pinpoint anything from inside. Nothing rattles or makes any kind of noise when going over bumps so I dont think anything is loose either. When I accelerate, the noise disappears. Similar noise occurs when the ignition is turned off. Any suggestions?

  • Answer:

my mustang had this happen - it was a catalytic converter that was old and the element inside it had fractured into smaller pieces that would rattle around when the backpressure in exhaust was relieved [like after whomping on it]

I like the catalytic converter answer. If you rap on it (all of them) with your hand or a rubber mallet, you might hear some rattling. If this occurs, the sub-strait inside the cat has become dis-attached from the case and could cause you a whole bunch of problems further down the road.

It sounds like you have a belt tenioner or idler pully going bad. Remove the belt and check every pully on it. If there all good replace the belt. When you let off the gas belts reverse slack, at that point a pully going bad will rattle or an old over stretched belt will cause a rattle. Hope this helps.
