Whatэs going on with my antifreeze coolant in my car?

White smoke coming out of exhaust pipe, smells like burnt antifreeze whats the cause?

  • My 1999 Cutlass was slowly leaking antifreeze and about 2 weeks ago I had filled my car with antifreeze because it was low before going to work. I got on the highway and drove about 5 minutes before getting off my exit and as this happened my antifreeze light and my check engine light came on at the same time. Luckily I was pulling into my place of employment and sat outside for a second when about 30 seconds later a whole hell of a lot of white smoke that smelled like burnt antifreeze came out of my car. After talking to some people and getting an idea we found that the head gasket was broke and needed to be replaced. My cousin does some work on cars and has just replaced the gasket as well as a new water pump. Problem is, my car still has smoke coming out of the exhaust that smells like burnt antifreeze and now it is making a screetching noise. I need some help, any suggestions!?!?!

  • Answer:

the coolant that was lost with the head gasket going, is now lying in the exhaust.and a good run should clear the problem up.the squealing could be from using the old belts?
