What should be done for general car maintenance?

My car has done 318000 Kms. Want to know what kind of maintenance is needed at this stage?

  • I have a Mazda 323 1.6 Litres GLX car. Its a 1999 model. I regularly changes engine oil and oil filter after every 5000 kms. Besdies that I dont do any maintenance worth the name. Of late I have noticed that the fuel consumption has increased a bit. My query is, do I need to do any extra maintenance?

  • Answer:

continue doing the opil changes , but add to it tune ups. when you change filters do you do the fuel as well as the trans? you should. there are many reasons why your car could be getting worse gas mileage, one of which is O2 sensors going bad, plugged filter(fuel), plugged air filter, fouled injector. at this point you might wish to get a compression check done to find out where your cylinder pressures are at. low compression can cause a up take in fuel use. how are the belts and chains?

Basically a tune up, air filter, spark plugs, distributor/rotary cap, spark plug wires and check your hoses for normal wear and tear just in case some need to be replace. U should also check ur oil everytime u put gas to see if the engine is burning any oil off

Probably the whole car needs to be inspected. As cars are generally built to last 10 years, so before it drops an exhaust valve into the motor...maybe it should be checked to see their condition in the head. Brake cylinders at the wheels should be checked to be sure they have not seized up on you. Spark plugs generally only last 100km at most (I change mine every year) or 12,000 miles. You are noticing something is different. Better to get it checked out while the problem is small and may need a tune up (rather than waiting till it is broken) But it is up to you how many days you want to use the public transport system.

Really FN bored

Maybe some Lucas fuel injector cleaner, That might Help with fuel economy. If you have put bigger tires on your car that will also kill gas milage.
