About provisional driving license in DC.

Can I live in washington dc but have Maryland driving license and tag?

  • I have recently moved to DC from Maryland but I want to keep my car in Maryland since I don't have any place in the city to keep the car and I don't drive it during the week. Can I continue to have Maryland driver's license and registration/tag but live in DC?

  • Answer:

If you moved and are a resident of DC, you will have to change over your registration and license, and have your vehicle inspected. See http://dmv.washingtondc.gov/serv/registration/register.shtm

Yes it is possible, many people do it to save some money on their insurance. I don't know if it's entirely "legal." Technically you are keeping it in Maryland during the week...ask your insurance company

You need to have a license for whatever jurisdiction you have your primary home address in. Where you keep your car doesn't matter.

Shouldn't be a problem.....since the States/DC tend to all run together up there! When I was there, I couldn't ever find a place to park, anyway! Good luck and I hope this helps!
