My friend bought me a truck in maine i live in georgia can i get it registered and insured in maine?

  Auto insurance policies are issued in the state where you live or where the gar is "garaged" which is Georgia. Before you drive this vehicle back from Maine, have your friend get the VIN number of the vehicle, then go to an agent in your state with the make/model/year plus the VIN number and they will issue you a policy of insurance so that when you leave Georgia to go to Maine and pick up, you will be insured. Driving a vehicle on vacation or visiting does not mean if in another state you need another insurance policy, since most policies cover you in the entire US. Call the GA BMV and ask what you need to do to register it when you get back from Maine. Make sure you have your papers showing you are the owner when you pick up. But if the plates in Maine are expired, may need to contact the ME BMV before driving it. good luck
