Driving Licence Test - Australia. Who is in the car? etc?
-
I have a few questions in regards to the P-Plate drivers licence test. I'm planning on taking the test very soon in Victoria. 1. When we sit the test in the car, who else is in the car with us? Do we have to have the person who we did the practice driving tests with me in the car also? Or can we just have the marking instructor in the car with me? 2. We can do the driving test in our own car (so I've been told) but is it true that the marking instructor marks us more harshly if we do it in our own car? 3. When we do a 3 point turn should we indicate when reversing out of the driveway? And also when doing a reverse park? And also any other hints/tips when going for the driving test

Answer:
1) The person who is doing the test will be the only person in the car with you, unless you want your driving instructor to come along for the ride as well- they would sit in the back seat if this was the case. 2) Yes you can do the test in your own car as long as it is roadworthy (they will check to make sure all the lights work.) I have never heard that they judge you more harshly in your own car. I sat my test in my bomb of a car and didn't have any issues. 3) Yes you should definitely indicate every time you take a turn, which includes pulling out of a driveway and making a three point turn. Try to ensure that you are always 5km under the speed limit while sitting the test. If you speed for more than a couple of seconds you get an automatic fail. When you stop at a stop sign, spell out the word 'stop' in your head- this normally takes 3 seconds which is the required amount of time you need to stop at a stop sign. Keep both hands on the steering wheel at all times. If you need to change gears, don't keep your hand on the gearstick longer than needed. Good luck :)

The driving instructor will be with you in the car only. I do not believe you will be judged more harshly using your own vehicle. When taking your test exaggerate everything so that the instructor knows that you know what the right things are to be seen doing, actually i think if you drove like this on the road normally it would be dangerous but then who said sitting a test was like real life anyway! So when looking in mirrors make sure you make it painfully obvious. The instructors are mad keen to see you do what is correct to the point of rediculous. I did my test three time before i passed, my instructor told me that i was not passing because i was not looking in mirrors. i told him this was bullshit so i looked in them like staring and getting up close and i passed. trust me when i tell you anyone driving like that should lose the licence, i have been driving for 25 years and would never in my wildest dreams drive like that.
