Do you need car insurance if you only have your permit?

I need a car insurance company that provides insurance for learner's permit ?

    You have posted this question, accidentally I am sure, in the UK and Ireland part of Yahoo. In order to post to the US site and to view US questions and answers - 1. You can't buy insurance to cover a driver with a permit owning a car, as he/she isn't legal behind the wheel without an instructor/observer. You will only be able to buy generic insurance at FULL rates, which will only cover you with your permit while being instructed, or practicing with a qualified and authorized driver. So, under that premise, what is the point of owning a car you can't drive yourself in?

Laws vary from state to state. Generally yo cannot drive on your own on a permit. In Texas if you have a learners permit your parents policy covers you for insurance. In Texas an adult over 21 must be in the front seat with you.
