How do I get a car title that has been lost?

How can i get a title for my car when i lost the title and its not under my name?

  • i bought my honda from a guy in galveston texas around early september of 08 and he gave me title but never tried to transfer it since registration was good for another 5 months so when the registration was close to expire i realized that i lost the title and now i cant locate the guy since i doubt he still lives in galveston After what happen with hurricane ike. So how can i get a title? sorry for it being too long

    You cannot easily get one but if and when you do, you may be fined for not registering it when you should have. (immediately after you bought it) You need to see the dmv.

I just went through this with my 1969 dodge charger that has not had a title since 1970. contact your BMV and ask them what are the steps to get it titled. all it should be is a title search, then certified letters to the owners listed on the title and then once you get them back just go to a small claims court and be declared the legal owner by the court. After that you take a title app to the bmv with the court order and you will have a title. this is alot cheeper than one of the we will title this car for you places. i spent a total of 120 to do the whole thing.
