If you were unfortunate enough to call your agent at the time of the accident you will be hit with a "loss", not a claim but a strike against you nonetheless. I know it doesn't make sense and that is why the more you know about insurance the better off you are. With a "loss" you will not see a rate increase but that depends on how hyour company's rating policy is filed with your state. If you didn't call your agent or file a claim and have your company get reimbursed by the other company then no one will know about the claim unless it gets reported as part of the CLUE report that can show up when you get underwritten for a policy which wouldn't happen anyway unless you went shopping for a lower rate or something like that. The CLUE report would show that it was a "not at fault" accident and wouldn't count against you. If you have several losses, not your fault you will still get dinged on your rate at some time in the future. The losses will not stay on any record for longer than 3-5 years depending on your state.

no it will not, as long as you and the other guy are in agreement that hes paying out of his insurance. you might what to have a document stating that, signed by him, just in case.

no, no insurance company is going to charge you for an accident that wasn't your fault

If you have your accident/police report and it says you were 100% not at fault, you will not be increased. But the CLUE (Comprehensive Loss Underwriting Exchange) report is what insurers go by when they run your license number and information. The CLUE report is not always accurate, so it may come up as your fault. I am an insurace agent in CA, and I advise my clients to keep the police/accident report in a safe place so if it is ever questioned or you are shopping for a new insurance company, you will not be ripped off or overcharged as the proof is right there. The usual span that a company looks for accidents is within the past 3 - 7 years, which is about the amount of time the accident stays on the CLUE report. If they raise your rates in a non-fault accident, you can file a complaint with the State Dept of Insurance and they will get it resolved for you. If your rate goes up as a nationwide / statewide increase then there is nothing you can do...

Depends on how much is "not completely your fault". If its 60/40 or 90/10 it will be interpreted differently. Also, if you have history of several tickets or accidents, this MIGHT effect you negatively, but for the most part, you should be okay. You can just call your insurance agent too and they will let you know.

Yes, if you reported it to YOUR insurance company instead of that of the other driver. I did not know about this, either, I thought you were home and hosed if you were not at fault, so I reported a not at fault accident to my insurance company...who increased my excess, and premium, and reduced the "agreed" payout figure for my car by $2,000.. And, unfortunately, insurance companies do talk to each other, so even if you do not report it, it is likely your company will still hear about it. Car insurance needs better regulation.

i was recently in your shous.....im in cali. so i dunno about everywhere. it was called 100% her fault, and i do have a record and have to answer yes, but my rates did not go up one penny, that sONLY i if its 0% your fault

If the insurance is aware of the accident either by you reporting it or through a police report, they still consider you in an accident and your rates will increase.

Depends on the insurance company and in which state you live in. For example I live in ky a no fault state so even if the accident is not my fault it doesn't matter.
