How To Modify Car?

How 2 modify a car without cancelling the warranty?

  • My ford focus st is just too slow and i need to make it a bit faster but it is still under warranty. So can somone please help me?!

  • Answer:

There are some extended warranty companies that allow modifications without voiding out the protection plan. The modifications cannot be too extreme for example if you are going to put a lift kit on your vehicle it may be lifted up to (blank) inches and will be voided past this number. The best thing you want to do is speak with your warranty company you are dealing with and find out their requirements. If you purchased an extended warranty policy through a broker who offers policies through multiple A rated insurance carriers contact them and find out which third party administrators allow modifications and what are the limitations to these modifications. If you have already purchased an extended warranty and find out at a later time the modifications your vehicle already has will void out ALL claims then you should immediately stop any payments and advise the warranty company of your modifications and have the policy cancelled. Any reputable auto warranty company should refund the full amount paid due to the reason that any claim you would have ever submitted would have been denied. If they try to give any hassle then seek legal advice to make sure that the full amount is refunded. Do not settle for a pro rated refund. Also, a lot of FACTORY modifications WILL be allowed and will not affect the policy. Again, staying is good communication with your warranty company or warranty broker is the best way to have your answers resolved.

The only way you can realistically improve performance without affecting the warranty is to lose any excess weight you personally have and to ensure that the car itself isn't carrying more weight than it needs to. Empty the boot (US=trunk), remove the spare wheel and carry a compressor and a can of tyre puncture goop, and drive around with as little fuel in the tank as you can safely get away with. If you want to get extreme, remove any superfluous seats and other internal cabin fittings. There is another way to potentially improve things, and that's to have the engine and transmission removed, dismantled, and rebuilt to original Ford blueprint standards. That means that anything which is not exactly as Ford originally specified when designing those parts is replaced or re-machined to be exactly spot-on. It's a huge amount of labour and expense though and won't make a massive difference, if any at all.

Why, you want to get to your accident sooner? Never mod a car under warranty with anything that isn't an approved option, either factory installed or dealer installed from the manufacturer. That lets out pretty much every performance option. Perhaps learning to drive like a human being is a better option. You will save money, and probably live longer.

Hi Vikshay, Modifications made to your Focus on parts covered under warranty will void the warranty coverage. Please refer to your Warranty Guide for further information. Noemi Ford Customer Service Division
