How do I get the title to my car?

How can I get the title for my car?

  • I live in VA. I bought a car from an impound who got the car after the previous didn't want to pick up the car. They sold the car to me with some type of paper work that served as the temporary title. Before I was able to turn that paperwork in, part of my house flooded in which that paper got completely ruined and is no longer available. The company that I bought the car from wants $250 to re-do the paperwork. I do no want to pay that. So my question is, is there another way I can get the title? Can I apply for a lost title? I also own my own mechanics business. Could I put the car under a mechanic's lien and get the title that way?

    Mechanics lien against who? That won't work. I suggest that you take your problem directly to the only people who can solve it. Your DMV.

Hey well the mechanic idea sounds good. But first you should go ask DMV to see if its cheaper with them to redo such a paper.
