Driving permit in Illinois?

Driving permit in illinois?

  • i went to the website for illinois drivers licenses and it says that(in one of many bullet points) that you must be enrolled in a driver education course in order to get your permit. does that mean that you have to be currently taking a drivers ed class and then you can get your permit? or can you get your permit and THEN get in a drivers ed class?

  • Answer:

If you are under 18, the drivers ed class comes first. Per the web page: In most cases, under-18 drivers must be enrolled in a formal driver education course, either one taught at their school or at a state-approved commercial driving education school. If you're over 18, and capable of passing the driving test: If you are 18 or over and have never had a driver's license before, you must go to any Secretary of State's office offering driver services and fill out an application. You will be required to take a vision test, a written test, and a driving test. You will also need to submit sufficient proofs of identity.

Use your common sense. If it says you need to pass a driving test to get your license, would that mean that you can get your license and THEN take the test?

If you are younger than 17 and 9 months you will need to pass through driver's ed before getting a permit. During the course of driver's ed, you will take your written test and get your permit. After that you can start driving and collecting the needed hours (50) to get a full license. Hope I helped!
