Can I get my drivers permit in california at 15?

• Ok, so I keep hearing something about I can get a permit at 15 if I am enrolled in a drivers education class. I am going to be 15 exactly tomorrow. I am a freshman in high school. Our high school takes one whole quarter (4th quarter) of history to teach us drivers Ed. I would like some clarifacation on the "being able to get a permit if enrolled in a drivers Ed class" does it mean I have to complete the class and get this pink slip or can I get while still taking the class. To playing say it, can I get a permit in california at the age of 15( not 15 1/2) if I am enrolled in a drivers Ed class. Another question would be, what is the pink slip I get after completion of drivers Ed actually do? Thank you for those who answer helpfully and kindly. Also please explain it so I can understand rather than copy and pasting from the DMV's website.

  The requirement to get you permit is: You need to be 15 1/2, Have passed a drivers ed class (need to show certificate), and enrolled in Drivers Training (different from drivers ed) the trainer will give u a reciept. After all that go to your local DMV, show that you passed drivers ed & is currently enrolled into drivers training and take the test. No you cannot get your permit while in Drivers ed. The pink slip(certificate) just shows that u passed it. To enroll into Drivers training look for one in the phone book. They usually charge around $90 per lesson and there are 3 lessons. Good luck.
