Do you have to set an appointment to take a driving permit test?

I do not need a learner's permit to take the driving test if I am 18 in California right?

  • I let my learner's permit expire in September of 2011. I got it in 2010 when I was 16. I just turned 18 and because I am not a minor can I take my driving test for my license without reacquiring a permit? Also, since I had to pay $32 to take the permit test, do I have to pay for the behind the wheel test? By the way, I took the driving test once when I still had my permit but I failed it, and I was not required to pay to take it. But now that I am without a permit I am wondering if now I do have to pay!
