Driving people around in MA on junior operators licence?

NYS driving with a Junior Licence?

  • I have a NYS junior licence. I know that i can drive with 2 people outside my family, and any amount of direct family members. But can i drive with 2 friends and my brother and sister in the car(they all are 16 and younger)?

  • Answer:

Depends on where in New York you are. See http://www.nydmv.state.ny.us/youngerdriver/map.htm for specifics. But the general answer is that you can drive: With no more than one passenger under age 21 unless the passengers are members of your immediate family. You can have more than one passenger under age 21 if your supervising driver is your licensed parent, guardian, person "in loco parentis," driver education teacher or driving school instructor. If your permit was issued before February 22, 2010, you can drive with no more than two passengers under age 21 unless the passengers are members of your immediate family. If your permit was issued before February 22, 2010, you can have more than two passengers under age 21 if your supervising driver is your licensed parent, guardian, person "in loco parentis," driver education teacher or driving school instructor.
