How do I get my drivers license?

How do I get a CDL drivers license and class E license? Do I need to forfeit my Class D license?

• Hi. I am 19 years old about to turn 20 and I just got my class D driver's license. But I want a challenge. I want to get my CDL driver's license so I can drive little kids on a school bus, make money driving a taxi, and impress my friends by taking them on road trips. Can someone tell me how I can get my CDL in Long Island, NY? Everyone is telling me it's difficult, but I'm ready for a challenge. I have been driving since I was 16 and a half and have plenty of experience. But if I have to give up my class D license for a CDL permit, then fck it. I'm not willing to give up my class D license because I worked extremely hard for it. It took many hours of hard work and dedication to obtain it.

  You are only allowed to have one License. When you get a CDL you are upgrading your drivers License. Also there is no School that will hire you. You are way to young. To get a CDL or Commercial Drivers License you study a CDL manual, and then take the test for that. If you are going to have passengers, that is a seperate endorsement on a CDL and you must take another test for that. Also in order to Drive School Busses you must also take and Pass a First Aid Course. Normally Schools will not hire any Drivers who are Under 25 years of age. Another thing you must realize is that to get your CDL you must take another Road Test, and it has to be in the Vehicle that you are getting the License for. If it is for a Bus then you must take the test in a Bus. If it is for a Truck and Trailer then you must come there in a Truck and Trailer to take the test. The only other way to get a CDL is to go to Truck Driving School, and you are looking at from $5,000 to $8,000 dollars and about 6 months of Schooling. They do not just turn kids loose out on the road in a big vehicle because they want to impress their friends.
