  • Answer:

VAN NUYS???,,,PACOIMA????,,,ARLETA ???? Oh "SoulMan",,,that brings back so many memories,,, Forty years ago, I took MY driving test in San Fernando (on Maclay street). But now, I live in Illinois,,, But to answer your question (s) The BEST advice I could give you is to RELAX and BE CONFIDANT ! And confidance comes from practice. (Thats the reason for your "learner's permit) The "tester" is NOT going to ask you to do anything impossible, and he surely knows that your probably nervous. So, RELAX, and BE CONFIDANT. These are some "tips" that I gave my grandson a few month's ago, when he took his test. HAVE YOUR INSURANCE CARD, AND PERMIT OUT AND READY for him to view. DON'T make him ask you for it. (Be prepared) SHUT OFF THE RADIO (or any other noise making items),,,FASTEN YOUR SEAT BELT, AND DON'T DRIVE without making sure that HE FASTEN'S HIS !!!! LISTEN TO HIS DIRECTIONS AND DON'T TALK. Answer any questions that he may ask, but don't try to "schmooze". He's not there for that. LOOK OVER YOUR SHOULDER BEFORE YOU PULL AWAY !!! (DON"T use your mirrors) DON'T SPEED, keep it UNDER the posted speed limit (about 5 miles below). DONT "JACKRABBIT" away from stops. Look BOTH WAYS before you start and go SLOW AND EASY (He has ALL DAY, and so do you !) When you approach a signal (controlled intersection) ALWAYS ANTICIPATE THE LIGHT ! (Is it going to turn red ??? Slow down, don't try to outrun the yellow! He'll probably "fail" you for that. )) Parallel parking is TRICKY, and to do it well, requires lot's of practice. He may avoid that part, but in any case, he might ask you to do it somewhere where it's safe and easy. Just make sure that you look over your shoulder (DON'T RELY ON YOUR MIRROR'S) before you attempt it. ALSO, this goes for pulling away from the curb. One last bit of advice, IF YOU THINK YOUR GOING TO FAIL, YOU WILL !!! So, cheer up and go for it,YOUR NOT GOING TO FAIL !!!,(And for heaven's sake, DON'T CHOKE !) If you do make a mistake, it's not the end, just get past it, and move on. GOOD LUCK !!! 'ol Geezer SFHS 's 60,,,GO TIGER'S !!!!!
