Can I take my driving test in another state?

Do you have to take your driving test again if you move to another state?

  • I'm 16 and I haven't got my driver's license yet..the reason is because we're going to be moving soon to another state. Do they make you take the driving test (not just the written but the driving test too) again if you move to another state? I would get my license now, but if they're going to make me take it all again when we move I might as well wait. Do they make you?

  • Answer:

Usually if you already have a valid drivers license all you have to do is take the written test in the new state.

Each state has its own regulations. But most I believe have you take the written exam again. That's what I had to do when we moved from Wyoming to WI and then to OH and back to WI. They do charge for that regardless.

Here in Minnesota you would have to take our class D written test and have your eyes checked. You will have to provide your current drivers license and primary I.D document like your gov't issued birth certificate or a valid unexpired U.S. passport. No road test is required.
