If a 20 year old doesn't have insurance on his car and get's into a car accident is the state of Illinois, what legally happens? I got into a car wreck in my uninsured vehicle, now I went out and got insurance, and have a court date set up. What legally should happen here? Loss of license? Obviously a fine.. Just give me the facts on this one.

Answer:
You violated a standard DMV law- not insuring your car. Now that you have insurance, the court may let you off the criminal legal hook, maybe reduce the fine. But you're still on the civil hook for the accident. You will be personally liable for any expenses associated with the accident. You will have to pay for damages and medical expenses to the other car and driver. Since you're only going to court for the vehicle code violation, no one can predict what you'll owe when the other driver brings you to civil court. 20 years old makes you a legal adult, even if you can't yet buy liquor. You (not your parents) will be liable for everything. This should be enough facts for you. ... Good luck!

The fine is the least of your worries. Having insurance now does mot help for this accident. It can only help if you happen to ge into another accident. But you had no insurance when the accident happened. You still can be fined. What happens. If the accident was your fault you will be sued. You need lawyer NOW. You will lose. You will be held financially responsible for all injuries and damages. Anything of value that you own like another car, house, etc will have a lien placed against it and you will have to pay the plaintiff if you sell it. Kiss your bank account good by. Your wages can be garnished. Items like income tax refunds can be garnished. Medical expenses can add up quickly. You can easily become responsible for well over $100,000 very quickly. In general, expect to work your behind off for a very very long time and expect to have little to show for it. If the accident was the other driver's fault things are a little different. You will still be fined for not having insurance. About $500 by the time you pay the fines and court costs. However, if the accident was not your fault the other driver's insurance pays for all damages and injuries. COntact the other driver's insurance company ASAP.

Definitely a fine. You will probably lose your license for at least a year. An attorney may be able to help you keep it, or at least get a hardship, if you want to go that route. Plus, you will be ordered to pay for the damages you caused to anyone else's property, plus their medical expenses should they (or their insurance company) decide to sue you in a civil case. You probably will not get jail time. Possibly probation.

Your case is not worth three minutes in court. The judge will fine you after you plead guilty. You may lose your license. The damages will be paid for by the other persons UnInsured Motorist coverages but their insurance company will hound you and sue you privately to recover heir loses.

You pay a fine, you have to pay for the other car's damages and medical bills if any, and you lose your license for a certain amount of time.

Yes obviously a fine, plus the costs for the damage you caused, and any medical /pain and suffering /rental costs incurred by the other party.
