Can an uninsured driver drive another person's car?

Can a driver drive a car without being on the insurance policy?

  • The car is my mom's, and her husband made the insurance policy and he is the main and only driver on the insurance policy, and i was askin myself if i can drive the car (i have a driver's licence)but i am not a second driver. IF i can prove that both of them agree that i can drive the car, will i have any problems with the law ?

    1. if you have your own insurance on another vehicle which allows you to drive "any" vehicle then yes. 2. if your "moms" husband (your father or stepfather) has insurance which allows any other driver to drive the car then yes. 3. if you are a "named" driver on the policy then yes If none of the above apply then NO you cannot drive it no matter what they say and if you do so and get stopped then both you and him will be fined and given points.

Unless you're named on the insurance, or have your own insurance which covers you on any car, you're not legally insured, and you will get in serious trouble if you're caught

In the UK you cannot drive without insurance. You will need to get yourself added to the insurance policy as a 'named driver' (or get insurance from elsewhere).

You are not insured to drive that car so cannot drive it legally on the road whether they have given permission or not - in fact if they did let you then one of them would also be prosecuted for aiding and abetting you in the crime.

you will have a problem in the uk ...thats not legal ...and i doubt if it is anywhere in the world

It doesn't matter whether your parents 'agree' you can drive the vehicle or not. Unless or until the insurance company says you can; you can't. And yes you will have big problems with the law, I hope this is not a retrospective question.
