How do I get the white slip?

I lost my pink slip and title to my car i just bought. I cant get in touch with previous owner.How do i regstr

  • Ok I just bought a used car from a private seller. After i bought it, the private seller moved away. I lost the pink slip and title for the car. I need to register it still. I cannot get in contact with the previous owner? If and how can I still register it? What should I do?

  • Answer:

    Cars are sold by title. If you lost the title, you don't own it and therefore can't register it since it isn't in your name. You will have to find the previous owner (did he do a change of address?) and have him get a duplicate title and sign it over again. You will have to pay whatever the cost is to do that of course. If you can't find him, you have a worthless car you can only use for parts.

in most states it is not a big deal. you should be able to go the the county clerk or courts and get a duplicate copy made. in the future I would try to find a safer place for your important documents though.
