I received a DUI over two years ago, can I still get a work from home job?
-
The answers to my question are probably going to be what I don't want to hear but here goes. I was 21 years old and had a year left of college. I was out with my friends and stupid me decided to drive home after some drinks. After getting from within five minutes of my home I saw those terrible lights starting to flash behind me. The rest is history. I blew a .10 : just above the legal limit in New Jersey and received a 7 month license suspension and a DWI charge. I come from a good family and a good upbringing. I'm respected among my friends and people that know me. I recently found an amazing job that would allow me to work from home for a major insurance company. The company provides a company car. I've never felt so into a job in my life. The opportunity seems amazing and I want it so bad. I began the interview process with a one hour long telephone interview with the corporate recruiter for this company. That went very well. Two weeks later I was called into one of their offices to take a computer based assessment focused on my skills for the job. I took that and felt very confident. I began sending thank you emails to the recruiters after each step of this employment process to make them realize how interested I am in the position. Then just recently this week, I had an interview with two of the hiring managers for the position. The interview went amazing. The female manager seemed to love every response I gave and I found her smiling at me through the interview. They were impressed that I had done some pretty extensive research online about the position and seemed to really sense how much I want it. Before leaving I asked when I would be contacted and she replied "I will most definitely be in touch with you next week" It made me feel incredible. Now, I'm waiting for the call. I', nervous because I've never wanted something so much in my life and now upon them extending me an offer, my motor vehicle history will show a DWI. Will they give me an opportunity to explain my situation. Will they perhaps let me use my own car? This really stinks. Positive answers are always welcome as well. Thank you!

Answer:
Only thing you can do is try, although I would present it to them first. Don't let them find out about it. It's in your best interest to be up front and honest.

First of all, best of luck with the recruitment !!! We have a very tough recruiting process in the company I work for - including background and financial checks but nothing related to driving history. Unless they have a company policy/clause where they cannot contract people with DUI history, you shouldn't have any problems. Why don't you check with their HR department ? That is going to be better than sitting down waiting to see what happens :) Again, good luck !
