How long will it take to get a title for my car?

How do I get a new Car Title If I lost the old one ( Green Paper ) and how long will this take?

  • This guy in trying to purchase a car from claims his lost the tittle of his car and his Forgien so that also doesn't help because he doesn't know much . So if he lost it, all I know so far is that he would have to file for a new car title right? And if he does this, how long would it take for him to get the title so that we can make this purchase NEED GOOD AND QUICK ANSWERS PLEASE .

    Given that you said he's foreign - the first issue is where he would have registered the vehicle in question. If it's in the states, then you can simply fill out a form (they usually need to be notarized) for a lost title with the state it was registered in, pay the fee, and they'll re-issue one. Like anything with government, they say give them 6-10 weeks... I don't believe you can do it on the spot, but I'm not certain about that. If it's another country... good luck with that. :-)

The owner is the only one who can get a duplicate title. He can get one on the spot at his walk in DMV office. DO NOT pay a dime until/unless the seller/owner furnishes you with a valid, merchantable title that is in HIS name...... Caveat Emptor
