I have a question about my drivers license.

Question concerning drivers license-moving states?

  • Currently, I'm in Florida and I took a drivers ed class, I've got my learners license and passed the test to get the drivers license, apparently, you've got to be either 18 or have your learners for a year; I'm moving to Texas in the summer and I was wondering if I need to retake any test to get my drivers license there or?

  • Answer:

Moving to Texas? New residents moving into Texas, who are at least 16 years or older and have a valid driver license from another state, have 90 days after entry into the state to secure a Texas Driver License. All out-of-state applicants must visit a Texas Driver License office to present and complete the following: Complete the requirements for an original applicant. If you have a valid out-of-state U.S. driver license or a valid driver license from Canada, France, or Germany, please bring it to the driver license office to surrender. The written and driving examinations will be waived, but you must still pass a vision exam. Applicants under age 18 with a VALID out-of-state driver license In addition to the items listed above, applicants under the age of 18 applying for a first-time Texas driver license and presenting either a valid out-of-state learner’s or driver license must present and do the following: Complete the requirements for an original applicant. Present the completion certificate of driver education. All applicants who have a learner’s license or a provisional (full class) driver license will be required to submit the completion certificate of driver education. Proof of enrollment in high school, a GED program, or home school is required. Submit a letter from the school administrator that includes the same information as the Verification of Enrollment and Attendance (VOE) form (the form Texas students use). Obtain parental authorization (parent must be present to sign). Surrender out-of-state permit/license. (If issued a driver license or permit from out-of-state) If you are under age 18, you must pass the mandatory driving test. NOTE: For customer convenience, some locations are pre-scheduling the driving exam. Contact your local Driver License office to see if appointments are offered. Please refer to the Teen Driver information for additional requirements.
