Answer:
Newgran is correct. You can only drive a motor vehicle for which you have the licence to drive, on your own insurance, provided that vehicle concerned HAS already insurance in force. If the owner has NO insurance for the said vehicle, your Insurance company will NOT cover you.

if you cancel your policy the it d oesn't matter whether he has insurance or not, he cant drive it on his own insurance policy, because your vehicle is not insured, he can only drive another vehicle if it is already insured. He needs to add it to his own policy to make it legal

the bird says nooooooooo/car is not insured

i rang my insurance to find out the answer to this the other day, a few years ago you could drive any moter vehicle with the owners permision if you had your own fully comp insurance, but now the car its self has to be insured by the owner for you to do this, so no nobody can drive it if the car isnt insured to be on the road

Unless you plan to store your vehicle on private property for the time you are gone, you can't cancel your insurance. If you do store it and cancel, no one can drive in your absence.

The only proper answer is for your brother to consult his insurance paperwork and if unsure his insurers. It may, or may not, be possible if he has comprehensible insurance but he must check. Don't take blanket answers on here for the truth. And don't forget that if you do cancel your insurance the car is not insured against anything that might happen to it even when parked up, such as fire, theft, vandalism etc.
No he cannot. If he has his own car insured he will not be able to add another car to it. If your car is not insured it cannot be parked on the public road or even in a public area - never mind used. To do it all above board you as the owner and registered keeper must insure your car unless it remains off the road for the whole time.

Yes I'd cancel it if you are going away for a while. Yes he can drive it aslong as he has his own insurance for the vehicle. He must be a named driver. Or have a traders policy (but then theres complications over that)

yes. but only if he has fully comperiensive car insurance, this allows him to drive any car with the drivers permisson, however the cover will then change to third party. fully comperience - covers any damage to the car, you, and the person you hit third party - only covers the person you hit. (you have to fix your car with your own money and you wont get any money for being injured)

Careful! Your brother can only drive your car if he is covered 3rd party to drive other cars on his own insurance. Not all do. i think that unless it is an old banger you would be better either making your brother a named driver on your policy or getting him to have your car as a second car on his own policy. A good broker should be able to fix this for you. in these circumstances it may be better to insure your car for fire and theft only and keep it off the road. It is best not to try and be clever because if you are and things go wrong you are on a loser
