What car is the cheapest to insure and good for a first car?

What's the best way for a young driver to insure his first car?

  • My mom just bought my brother-in-law's old car for me. I would like to be on the road ASAP. What's the cheapest and quickest way to "get legal"? Should I co-insure with one of my parents under a new or pre-existing account, or should I start anew? Another option is to insure myself independently. I'm just looking for the quickest and cheapest choice. Thanks in advance!

  • Answer:

Quickest is to do it on your own, for sure. Cheapest? No way to know for sure. Depending on where you live, your credit score could be involved, and with you driivng, well, it's still going to charge for YOU. Who's name is the title in? THAT'S the person who has to get the plates and insurance.

The cheapest option is to have your parents add you as a driver and your car to their current insurance policy.

I love my baby boy!

Dont worry about it. Car insurance is a sexual discrimination con scam. I paid $330 a month in insurance for my first car... the car was new and the payment on the car was only $228 a month... And I had 0 wrecks and 0 tickets!! Just for being a young guy!! Then I found out that your astrological sign actually has more influence over whether you will be in a wreck than your age and sex (seriously do a google search for the research). You will seriously be better off if you just sock 500$ away in your underwear drawer to pay the ticket with. And if you wreck and kill someone... youre protected because you dont have any cash anyways so they cant sue you. Attorneys call that judgement proof. Stick it to the MAN!

You should get on your parents if possible because some companies offer multicar discounts. Shop around. State Farm offers a good driver discount if you have no tickets or accidents and a discount for good grades. ( I work for State Farm) They also have a new discount called Steer Clear for young people.

Either under your parents insurance, or on your own using third-party. Shop around, see what comes out cheapest.

THE BEST WAY IS TO STAY COVERED UNDER YOUR PARENTS INSURANCE WHICH WILL BE HIGH ANYWAY BUT A LOT CHEAPER THAN GOING ON YOUR OWN AND IF YOU ARE UNDER 18 YEARS OF AGE YOU CANT GET INSURANCE ANYWAY.
