Answer:
Your insurance premium will be based on the registered address of the car, not your licence. But the insurance company will be curious about the two different addresses for fraud prevention purposes. The original valuation that the insurance offered you was based on a car value book called "Glass's Guide". This is a document used universally by the motor trade and insurance companies to get the current value of second-hand and insurance write-off cars. The values are based on the make, model, age, mileage and condition of the car before the crash. Glass's Guide is based on an average of car auction sales valuation over the previous year so it does not necessarily represent the actual price that you would have to pay as a retail customer. The Glass's Guide is used by all dealers and insurers but you are not legally bound to accept the valuation based on this if you have evidence that it is too low. Your insurance contract is not for a new car or a different car. It is to provide you with a replacement vehicle of equivalent condition and type to one that you smashed - or the cash equivalent. You are correct to challenge the offer that they made but it will help if you do some internet and car magazine searches to find out exactly how much cars like yours are currently selling for. You need an exact match for make, model and year or it doesn't count. Send copies of the adverts that you have found to your insurance company (or claims handler) and say that THIS is the true value of the car and that you will accept an offer for that value. It can take a year before even the simplest insurance claims are settled so be patient and keep copies of all correspondence and notes of phone calls.

No one here can possibly tell you what's going on because we haven't talked to them. You have to call them to find out.

Do you REALLY think anyone on here can answer that? Speak to your insurers.

I felt ill reading all that, and utterly confused. If that's how you've told your story to the insurers, this is going to take quite a while.... Keep it clear and simple in future.

Just how the heck do you think anyon here can say what YOUR insurance company is doing. SPEAK TO THEM.
