What's the cheapest car to insure?

I am 17, im looking for my first car, whats the cheapest car to insure? (2011)?

  • key info: 17 male 0 NCB

  • Answer:

There's a book you can buy in all branches of WHSmiths i think it's called parkers. It gives a list of car models, how much you should expect to pay in insurance for any brand, new or old. Pick it up at any WHSmith. Little booklet. Called the Car Buyers Guide. Hope this helps :)

Most things with small (sub 1200cc) engines, but 'cheapest' for a 17 year old still means £2,000+ no matter what car you get.

At your age, expect to pay at least £3000 for insurance on the cheapest car imaginable.

Depends on the insurance company, but they based their rates on the value of the car, the higher the value the car, the higher you gonna pay for insurance. Other factors that affects your insurance premium is your experiencee, location, other extension of coverage like acts of nature (flood, typhoon, hurricane etc), plus the commission to your insurance agent.

apparantly your car insurance is supposed to be a bit cheaper when you hit 25! haha, no it dosent! it all depends on the size of the engine (i drive a 1.2), depends on where you live, the amount of excess you want to pay if the worst happens, if your car has an alarm, where your car is left overnight - garage, driveway or side of road, type of insurance (3rd party or comprehensive). Best thing is to check loads of companies but maybe try to buy a small engine car and look at all these insurance options for the best deal. Happy Hunting :)

Try getting some online quotes for different cars you may be surprised what comes out cheapest, things like corsas probably won't be that cheap. You might want to try things like old minis, old beetles or 2CV. Try a specialist brokers like adrian flux they might be able to give advice. Best of luck getting on the road.

I know more than you do

1.0 litre, not sporty, not modified, low specification and 5 to 10 years old, kept in a garage overnight at your own address. Your address will be in the lowest of the 7 possible categories used by the insurers to assess risk of car crime and you will be employed in a typical full time 9 to 5 type job. Even then it will still cost thousands a year to insure it - On 03/03/2011 I got a fictitious quote from a well known comparison site on the following ..... Mr Smith, 17, passed test 4 weeks ago, full time shop assistant, Vaux Corsa 1.0 litre worth £2000 not modified registered in 2003, parked in a driveway at night, used for social and commute to one workplace and no restrictions on when it could be driven, policy excess £550 total, 10000 miles a year living in a lowest possible car crime risk postcode. A very simple case which should bring close to the best possible and typical price at 17. Result - from 121 insurers only 31 quoted. Cheapest was £4800 a year or £747 deposit and £524/month for 9 months (highest for same cover - £8004/year) Looks like that is the way it is now for younger potential drivers. At various times as you go through life there will be things you would like to be able to do or have but due to age and/or finances you cannot - for many teens this is how it is now for cars in that just like me and a new Ferrari I don't have enough money.
