Full UK driving license, can I ride a Moped?
-
I have completed a CBT course for my Moped in May 2010 and I have got my FULL UK DRIVING LICENSE in February 2012. I am a bit puzzled of, do I need to take another CBT course in may 2012? I have got my original certificate for my CBT but it doesn't say (as far as I know) whether I have to re take it. Should I be fine to ride on my Full UK license even after May 2012? and can I take the L plates off and carry pavilions? England people only - please.

Answer:
Simple answer - you car licence is also a moped licence so you don't need L plates. For mopeds the CBT does not expire when you have a full licence so you don't need a new one To ride anything over 50cc you would need L plates and a new CBT after 2 years..

{ ... To ride a motorcycle on the road you must * Be at least 17 years old (16 for a moped) * Have a driving licence which allows you to ride motorcycles (category A) That licence can be any of the following * A provisional driving licence with motorcycle entitlement * Full car licence. This automatically provides provisional motorcycle entitlement * Full motorcycle licence * Full moped licence. This provides automatic provisional motorcycle entitlement if you're aged 17 years or over. ... } So from reading that it appears to me a full driver's license supersedes the those limited to only motorcycle or moped. And the part you are probably interested in is: { ... Provisional motorcycle licences used to have a life of 2 years. But as from 1st February 2001, motorcycle licensing rules were changed. All new provisional licences showing motorcycle entitlement issued from that date are valid until the holder's 70th birthday. Holders of the old licences can apply to have the licence replaced with one that will include provisional motorcycle entitlement valid to age 70. Replacement licences should be applied for from DVLA using the normal application forms (available from Post Offices). Existing motorcycle provisional licence holders who do not pass a motorcycle test before their provisional licence expires are NOT now subject to the 12 month wait before they can get new entitlement. ... } Sorry, but I am not UK, so don't know about L plates or pavilions. But the link does mention them.

You will still need L plates on i reckon because it isnt a full bike license. But you should be fine driving it around if you have already taken your CBT. Im not 100% if this is fine, to check just go to your nearest bike shop or just ring the DVLA. You might have to retake your CBT, because i heard it only lasts 2 years, but im still not completely sure if this is correct. Hope this helps

you may ride a moped without L plated but keep your DL 196 as that validates your moped entitlement check all details on directgov website

From what I know you should be allowed to drive a 50cc moped only with a full driving Licence above that 50cc moped then you need to take a test & if you're buying a moped or bike then the bike shop can tell you or go to DVLC Swansea & read up on the laws because if you're buying an motor bike above a 50cc moped then the bike shop needs to advise & show you the proper controls & a quick lesson not very long to do either.

Passing your car test no longer allows you to ride a moped without L plates and so on. It hasn't done so since 2001. Your CBT is only valid for two years. You have two choices, either redo your CBT and continue to ride with L plates and no passenger or take the motorcycle theory and practical tests to gain full entitlement to ride with a passenger and no L plates.
Have they not changed it to u need a cbt course even if u do have a full licence for any cc
