How old do you have to be to obtain a car title?

How to obtain a car title?

  • I bought a car in 2008 from a dealer that is currently out of business. When I moved to a different state the title was required in order to register my car. I thought I had lost it, when filing for a replacement I was told the title never existed. I have the blue and yellow copy of the application for a title that was filled out when I bought the car. I sent it along with a complaint letter to the Maine bureau of motor vehicles and was assigned a detective. Today I received a letter from my "detective" in the mail stating that they were sorry they couldn't help me because the deal of which I bought my car from is no longer in business and I no longer live in Maine. What else am I supposed to do!? I've got a car sitting in my parking lot of my apartment complex waiting to be towed because it should have been registered months ago.

  • Answer:

Ask that the Maine DMV "decision" be appealed. If that fails, file a complaint with the Maine Department of consumer protection, (include a copy of the complaint to the Maine DMV) then while you are waiting, Explain to the new state, what happened, and furnish them with anything and everything you have in writing........ "The squeaky wheel gets the grease" Good Luck
