How to put an aftermarket exhaust on a car?

Will my insurance go up if i put an exhaust on my car?

  • Im 17 and I have a VW Golf 1.4 04, i was just wondering if i put an exhaust on the car to make it sound better (it doesnt have to be a sports exhaust) would my insurance premium go up, because i dont have a clue if it will. Any information will be appreciated. Thanks.

  • Answer:

If you tell your insurance then they will add to your policy and possible assess that you are presenting further risk and likely hood of a claim. And in turn the premium will be increased, i have seen this doen with changing alloy wheels on cars. If you dont tell them then obviously the price sticks but if you have a crash the likely hood is that they will void the policy when you make a claim stating that you did not make them aware of modifications and this could have resulted in the incident being your fault. You can only choose which way you prefer, but i got my insurance voided one for changing my stereo, which meant no recovery or payout.

It depends upon your insurer, but likely, yes. For anyone until 25, they consider that risky behavior, and it moves you into a different insurance classification.
