Here we go again.... There is no "cheapest car" or "cheapest insurance" for a 17 year old, all you can do is get the smallest engined car you can find like a 1.0 Corsa and try every insurance company you can find and you MIGHT get the bill down to £3,000 if you're lucky, but you need to ask insurance companies, not us...

Insurance for a 17 year old is going to cost you more in a year than what you want to spend on your car. Your best bet would be to call an insurance agent from the ones you have available, ask them what your premium would be and what the least expensive car would be to insure. A small sedan will be less expensive to insure than something with a large engine, lots of features and something someone might want to steal.

When choosing a first car for a 17 you look first at the insurance group. You might as well start with a bit of a bow wow as someone else said you are bound to bend it and you don't want something where you are going to be claiming insurance for body repairs. That would push your insurance into the stratosphere. if the budget is 2500 you are looking for a 500 pound car anyways, it will cost you 2k to insure anything. Something like a 1.0 saxo or AX will be the car for you. Forget bigger engines the insurance will break you. Once you have some no claims worked up you can be more chosey.

It would be VERY EXPENSIVE for a single male under age 25 to get car insurance, regardless of the car you get because you are in the highest RISK category. See if you can get added onto your parent's policy as a part-time driver. Being a good student (top grades) can also get you a significant discount.

Advice?, buy a 1.0 litre banger, you will only put loads of dents in it, most do with there first car, gain some road experience in that and move on to something different, as for insurance, theres tons of sites on the nett, be prepared though for a big shock, £1200 upwards for it

For £2500 and the £3000 a year to insure it, whatever it is, you could pay for a hell of a lot of taxi and bus journeys

Timbo is here

you can pick up cheap cars anywhere, but there is no such thing as cheap car insurance for a 17 yr old, its going to be very expensive till you are a lot older.

Whatever you can get.
