Where can I get the third party insurance?

Do you get third party insurance automatically when you register a car in Victoria, Australia?

  • I was told that just registering your car through in Victoria (Australia) gave you automatic third party insurance. I've never heard anything about this and am a little dubious. Does anyone know for sure, I can't see anything on the VicRoads website and it's after business hours now. Thanks.

  • Answer:

Yes and no. You do get a form of insurance with your registration. This is your compulsory 3rd party insurance- it covers personal injury that you cause in the result of an accident. But it is not the Third party property damage cover that you purchase from an insurance agency. TPPD covers you for damage that you cause to other cars or property in the event of an accident, so it is still very much something that you should take out, otherwise if you do have an accident you could be thousands of dollars out of pocket.
