Moving to texas--Will my driving permit hours come with me?

  • Hi, I'm moving to Texas soon and I want to know if my driving hours will come with me. I'm 15 years old, have had my permit for about 6 months with 25+ hours of driving time. I want to know that if under Texas law if I'll have to start over or if all that transfers over. Also, I currently live in Colorado where the law is that you must have your permit for one full year before getting your license. Since I got my permit 4 months after my birthday, will I be able to get my license in Texas right on the date of my 16th birthday or will I have to wait the full year like in Colorado? Thanks!

  • Answer:

You will need to apply for a Texas Learner's Permit. You must hold the permit for 6 months before you can get your Texas driver's license. Texas also requires that you take a state-approved driver education course, therefore you will need to take driver's ed (from the beginning). Try Driver Ed In A Box, it is easy to do and you can do it on your own schedule (you can even start now, before you move). Check it out: www.driveredinaboxonline.com
