Why do you drive on a parkway and park on a driveway?

Why do people park in a driveway but drive on a parkway?

  • the english language does stuff like this all the time.. why?

  • Answer:

Why do you need a driver's license at a bar to drink, when you can't drink and drive? At least you can drive on a driveway. In Boston, there are tons of very confusing left only lanes, one way streets, etc. And you can get totally lost trivially. The main suggestion is that the cow paths were paved, which is why it's so convoluted. But the sad truth is that cows have better sense. You can only get roads that are as convoluted as in Boston with politics. It's the same with the language.
